Paperbabe Challenge number #2 - picture/colour inspiration

Hiya its that time again A New Challenge begins over at Paperbabe Stamps Blog

The theme is a Picture/Colour Inspiration

Here is the Picture the Design Team had for a reference

I decided to try something a little bit different to my usual makes with a Mixed Media Piece

I have used 3 Paperbabe stamp sets in this project 'Oriental Zen', 'Doll Face' and 'Fabulous Everything'

I started out with an A4 piece of Greyboard that I Upcycled from an old Sketchpad. I have a habit of using things from around my house with my craft stash as I do not like to through anything away if I can help it. Next I chose colours from my Acrylic Paint set to match the Colours in the Inspiration Photo and a few skin tones and hair colours.

I have also used a page from an old Dictionary, Joint Filler robbed from my Hubby's Shed (Shhhhh) and a few Masks that i would normally use with Inks.

I covered the whole surface first with Joint Filler and before it was set I fixed the dictionary page to the centre. Using the masks I dragged filler over them at the corners using a palette knife and lifted them off to leave the texture behind. Now I'm not a patient person so used a Heat Gun to fry the filler out so i could move to the next stage which was painting.

I marked out a circle in the middle of the Dictionary page so the words 'Beauty and Beautiful' could be seen in the centre of the circle this would become the face. Using the Doll Face set I stamped the Open Eye with lashes stamp on one side of her face and the closed lashes eye the other side. I also used the Eyelid curved shape for her closed lid and her chin. I stamped the nose stamp lower down in the centre of her face and the Full Lipped mouth stamp under the nose. once her face was stamped I painted a flesh colour acrylic over the whole face. I drew a neck and used a lighter flesh colour to paint it in.

I stamped the Double Half circle stamp from Oriental Zen around the base of the neck as a collar for her blouse. I then drew shoulders. I painted the shoulders using a few shades of paint and a sponge for a textured effect.

Once her face was dry I painted in the details of her eyes, nose, mouth, makeup and a beauty spot.

I free hand painted her hair which afterwards realised I should have drawn it with a pencil first which I will remember for next time.

The flower (from oriental zen) in her hair I stamped on a separate piece of card using black ink and then over stamped with paint and the solid stamps to fill in the colour.

The background I used a piece of foam and randomly dabbed different shades of paint around the lady and filling in over the textured areas.

The greeting (from Fabulous Everything) I first stamped the border stamp using a purple ink pad and then I stamped the word Fabulous over the top using black ink.

Once all the paint was dry I coated over the whole board using Mod-Podge. I stuck the flower and greet down using glue gel and then one more coat of med-podge over the whole board again once the glue was dry.

I hope you like my project it took some time and was way out of my comfort zone as I have not painted any figures since I was studying art at school.

Thank you for visiting my blog and I hope you will visit again soon xxx

Bestie's Friday Post

Hiya I've been a bit busy today but would like to share with you my Friday Make for Sherri Baldy's  Blog

I wanted to make something bright and colourful so I chose a cute little digi and some papers and an idea came to me so I just went with it

The Image I chose was 'Dragonfly' one of the newer Images from Sherri Baldy My Besties you can get her HERE at the Etsy Store

I coloured her using Copic Makers then fussy cut out her and the 2 Dragonflies that are part of the Digi Image.

The papers I have used are from a Sidewalks Pad 'October Afternoon' they are really summery colours and just what I wanted to use for my card. I matched them up with a few offcuts from my stash and then set about layering it all up. I used a few strips of the papers down the sides and circle cutouts for the flower centres.

I have used Salmon Pink mirror board for matt&layering and for the Doily diecut behind the paper doily. A piece of music score that was left over from another card I used at a jaunty angle for a bit of dimention to the card.

The sentiment I have used is a freebie which you can find at the link below
http://scrap-a-licious-times.blogspot.co.uk/p/sentiment-digital-stamps.html

I have used a few fabric flowers and some die cut flourishes for some texture and a summery feel, this is where I then used the cut out Dragonflies from the image like they are flying around the flowers.

I thank you for visiting my Blog today and I hope to see you again soon

Oh don't forget Sherri is having a sale over at her Etsy Store for the next few days enter the following code at the Etsy Checkout for 25% off your total purchase  Bestiesale4u25

The Music Of The Night - Phantom of the Opera - for Inspired by a Song Challenge

I so so loved the theme of the Creata Challenge this time and thought I had missed the deadline to enter but thankfully not so I got to create the card I imagined when I saw the theme 'Inspired By A Song' check out the Challenge HERE!

The song I chose is.....'The Music Of The Night' from 'The Phantom of the Opera' my absolute fave Musical ever by the amazingly talented Andrew Lloyd Webber. You can find a link to the video I watched while planning and making my card below...

The Music Of The Night

To make this card I have used an Image of 'The Phantom' from Sassy Studio Designs you can get him HERE! you will need to scroll down a few images to find him.

I have coloured my Phantom using Copic Markers

Hair: E49, E39, E29
Eyes: YG67, YG63
Skin: E13, E00, E000
Lips: E04
Mask, Cravat & Cape Lining: C3, C1, 0
Waistcoat: R59, R39, R37
Jacket & Trousers: C9, C7, C5
Cloak: 100, C10, C8, C6
Shoes: 110, 100, C10

The Rules of Creata Challenge are you need to use at lease 1 Creata Product in your entry so I'm listing my Creata Products here:

Ruby Red Mirror Board
White Silky Cardstock
Hearts Entwined Die
Stage Curtains Die

I have used an 8x8 scalloped cardblank to make my card. I have used White Creata Silky Cardstock and Ruby Red Creata Mirror Board for the matt&layering behind the black background.

For the background I wanted to create a bit of Drama so I trimmed a piece of cardstock and then using some stamps and embossing powders I think I achieved the look I wanted.

The Chandelier Stamp is from Visible Image
The other various Music stamps are from an old Kanban set from my stash

I stamped the Chandelier's first at varying heights at the top of the Cardstock using a watermark inkpad then used white embossing powder and a heatgun. I did the same with the music notes, flourish and the piano keys. I stamped the music score stamp and the treble clef stamp using watermark inkpad and then used red tinsel embossing powder and a heatgun. I then fixed this panel to the Matt & Layered cardblank.

I die cut the Stage Curtains Die and the Entwined Hearts Die from Ruby Red Mirror board and then fixed to the cardfront along with the Phantom image that i fussy cut out

I am really pleased with how my card has turned out and I really hope you like it.

Why not visit the Creata Challenge and enter yourself there is a brilliant prize for the winner you can enter the challenge using the link below

I would also like to enter this card into the following Challenges...

Frost Sprite a make for Paperbabe

Wow its been a busy week ive not had much time to do anything but prepare for Birthday's so this make was from a few days ago but I wanted to share it with you all today xx

This little cutey is a New Stamp Set over at Paperbabe Stamps and you can get him HERE

Dillon Frost Sprite

I have stamped him onto Super Smooth Cardstock and then coloured him using Copic Markers

Hair: C3, C2, C1, 0
Skin: E11, E00, E000 Blush: R02
Snow: C2, C1, 0
Eyes & Jumper: B45, B41
Trousers: N7, N5, N3

I chose a piece of blue textured cardstock for the backing and randomly stamped a Snowflake Stamp (I have used the one from Paperbabe Set 'Mayleedee Frost Fairy') using a watermark inkpad which I then tipped white embossing powder over, tapped off the excess and heat embossed using a heat tool. I love this effect as it give the background a raised pattern and more texture.

I Matted the backing using navy pearlescent cardstock and fixed to a 8x8 scalloped cardblank using foam tape to add a bit more dept to the card.

I used a paper trimmer to cut the stampImage out leaving about 1cm around the edge of the stamp, I used the Snowflake stamp again using Faded Jeans Distress Ink and Cloudy Blue Adirondack randomly around the edges. I used silver pearlescent and more of the navy pearlescent for more layering.

I then stamped the two sentiments that are in the 'Dillon Frost Sprite' stamp set, trimmed them and Matted again onto navy pearlescent cardstock and attached one in each corner using foam pads.

i finished the card with a few diecut snowflakes which I cut using white pearlescent cardstock and some dies from my stash. I attached these to the card using tacky glue an put a gem into the centre of each of the snowflakes.

I hope you like my card today thank you so much for visiting and I hope you will visit again soon :)

Bestie's Challenge - Anything Goes/Flowers

Today begins a new Challenge over on the Besties UK Challenge BLOG and the theme is Flowers/Anything Goes

I wanted to make something other than a card for this Challenge so I had a look around and found my daughter's scissor pot from her craft desk which is a Smash tin and though I would upcycle it for her

Here are the papers and embellishments I chose to use along with the undecorated tin

I wanted to use plenty of flowers for the Challenge Theme and wanted the pot to look really pretty for my daughter's craft desk, she is 12 and really getting in to making cards and loves pretty things xx

The Image I chose to use is available at the Etsy Store HERE

I coloured her using Copic Markers

Hair: E37, E35, E31
Hat: Y26, Y23, Y21
Skin: E13, E11, E00, E000
Lips: E04
Eyes, Leaves: YG67, YG63, YG61
Berries & Roses: R37, R35
Pink Flowers & Dress: RV25, RV21, RV10
White Flowers: Y17, C3, C1
Ribbons & Trim: BG13, BG11, BG10

The papers and Die Cuts I chose are from 'Vintage Blooms' by Jennifer Ellory I received a pack as a free gift in 'Quick Cards Made Easy' magazine and they are so beautiful I just love the summery colours - I love the sentiment DieCut and its very true of my daughter Ashleigh who makes me smile every day as do her 2 brothers and younger sister

All the paper flowers I have used are from 'Wild Orchid Crafts' who I order from regularly they have such a wide range of blooms at very good prices

I measured and cut two pieces of floral paper to cover the tin and attached them using 'Collal' all purpose glue. I wrapped a piece of florist ribbon around the covered tin I attached this using a glue gun. I then Die Cut my coloured Image and a large circular Doily Die from 'Joycrafts' and attached this to the tin using a glue gun. I fixed the DieCuts tucked around the Doily. I attached all the flowers and stamens in random places surrounding the other elements. I finished the pot with a pompom trim.

Ashleigh is very pleased with her now very pretty scissor pot

I hope you like my project and that it inspires you to enter the challenge there are great prizes for the winner x x
